This is the 1995 collection of Pleasant Company's line of dolls and accessories made to represent current fashion, called Girls of Today. There were original 20 dolls with varying skin, hair and eye color. This doll is number 3, fair completion, blonde hair and blue eyes.
She was very popular and various versions of her were made until 2008. The first dolls had bangs that are pie shaped and do not have a part. This gets changed at the end of 2000s.It has a large white shirt, magenta T-shirt, magenta leggings, a reversible denim vast with magenta print inside, magenta underwear and slip on black shoes. Missing from this outfit is a magenta hair scrunchie. In with the doll is a six-book writing set in the design of the Historical central series. There are 6 blank books, and an instruction booklet for each one.
Not included is the blue plastic lettering template. 3 additional outfits were introduced in 1995 to go with this line of dolls, Blue Jeans Basics 1, Slumber Shirt & Mini Bear, and The Nutcracker Ballet Costume. The Blue Jeans Basics includes blue jeans with a belt, red T-shirt, yellow socks and high top tennis shoes. Another accessory for this was the School Gear. It was a purple backpack containing a notebook cover, spiral notebook, pencil, report card, calculator and a math book.
The red Slumber shirt came with a matching headband, and a mini Miss AG bear also dressed in a sleep slumber shirt. The last outfit was the pink nutcracker Ballet Costume. It contains the one piece top and tutu, iridescent wings, a tiara, a wand, slippers, and tights. Missing is the Nutcracker Ballet program. Included with the collection is a Miss AG Bear introduced in the Nov/Dec issue of American Girl Magazine in 1994.
The 1995 catalog featured her in the slumber shirt which matches the one worn on the mini Miss AG bear that came with the Slumber shirt. It has the shirt and matching headband.
She came with a couple of girl size grin pins. And included with her was a child size copy of the craft book with some supplies. Introduced on the same page as the 3 outfits were the new Mini version of The Historic dolls.They were advertised as dolls for your American Girl of Today. The 5 dolls, Samantha, Molly, Kirsten, Felicity and Addy came in the white pinstripe box with the 5 cameo slip off band like the large version of the dolls. But in 1995 the box came inside an additional white box with the American Girl of Today slip off band. This set of double boxes is a rare find.
This original doll has the glass eyes and wig. The dolls were changed by Mattel in 2000 to painted eyes and rooted hair. The doll, the 3 outfits, the meet accessories, the school supplies and the mini doll all come in white American Girl of Today boxes.
The school supply box is missing its band.
